Anyone that knows me, even in the slightest, knows I could live at Sephora. It is incredibly easy to get sucked into their beautiful displays of the hottest new products. However, at the end of your trip you’re also met with a reality check. This ish is expensive! Yes there are products that I love that have an absurd price tag, BUT the reason I can afford them is because I have found other products that are much more wallet friendly. Don’t get it twisted, some of these products are dupes for their higher end alternatives, and dare I say some have REPLACED higher priced products I thought I couldn’t live without.
More often than not I put on lipstick to finish any makeup look. My lips are chapped and dry regardless of the season so I have to make an effort to exfoliate and keep them hydrated. Before I start my makeup routine I like to use E.L.F.’s Lip Exfoliator. I apply it to my lips in a circular motion and then take a damp cotton round to remove the scrub. Follow that up with your favorite lip balm and your lips will be plump, smooth, and ready for your favorite lipstick by the time you’re done with your makeup!
This product is a favorite, period. Seriously, I would pay double! Mario Badescu Facial Spray is like a spa in a bottle. It smells amazing and gives your face that refreshed feeling any time, day or night. I have used this product many different ways but I love spraying it a few times all over my face before starting my makeup. My skin feels hydrated and prepped for my foundation. Another plus? It’s only $7!
These two are in my opinion the BEST “drugstore” foundations out there right now. L’ORÉAL Infallible Pro-Matte 24HR Foundation is one of my favorite matte finish foundations regardless of its cost. I like and use this more than some high-end foundations I own – Kat Von D Lock-It and Lancôme Teint Idole are two that immediately come to mind. I have combination skin and become quite oily throughout my t-zone by the end of the day. The Pro-Matte stays put all day (I maybe have to touch up with some powder on my forehead and nose once toward the end of the day) and doesn’t feel super heavy. The product claims to have a demi-matte finish but I believe it to be more of a true matte.
If you have dryer skin or you like more of a dewy finish to your foundation, L’ORÉAL Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation is one you have to try! As much as I love looking dewy, I walk a very fine line between glowing and oil slick. I gave this one a shot because of how much I love the Pro-Matte version. Needless to say, I wasn’t disappointed. I have to touch it up more than the matte formula but its worth it for a wearable dewy finish on my mostly oily skin!
Maybelline® FIT ME!® Concealer is extremely similar to Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer at a fraction of the cost; seriously it’s almost six times cheaper! As you can see from the photo, I use this product a lot. I love the formula, it is lightweight, AND conceals my under eye area perfectly.
The first of my two favorite affordable mascaras is Rimmel’s Lash Accelerator Endless Mascara in Black. My top lashes need help in the length department and this mascara delivers. Rimmel claims that after 30 days of use, this mascara will make your lashes “126% longer” and stronger. I cannot say I have experienced that but as long as the product gets the job done, I am happy!
I knew I had to try L’ORÉAL’s Voluminous Volume Building Mascara in Carbon Black when Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, listed it as one of his favorites. Whether you love or hate Kim, you would be lying if you said her makeup doesn’t always look flawless. Unlike, Rimmel’s Lash Accelerator, this product is formulated to build thickness and give your lashes more of a dramatic look. For me personally, false lashes is how I achieve dramatic lashes but this mascara does give me more volume and fullness. It is more than worth its price point!
NYC Liquid Eye liner is the blackest matte liquid liner I have EVER used. What’s even better? It is about $3! It does take some practice to use it correctly, but what liquid liner doesn’t? This liner dries down to a very matte black but the key here is letting it dry. The formula is very wet which makes it easy for it to smudge or transfer if you’re not careful. I linked another liquid liner by NYX down below that is almost exactly like NYC’s in case you have trouble getting your hands on it!
Rimmel’s ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Eyeliner in Nude is a great dupe for Mac Cosmetics Chromagraphic pencil in NC15/NW20 and Nars liner in Rue Bonaparte. Pop this liner in your waterline to make your eyes appear larger or if you want to look more awake!
Maybelline’s Eyestudio Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil in sleek onyx is the black eyeliner pencil I have been reaching for more than my “high-end” ones. It goes on so smoothly and I haven’t had any issues with it running. The only problem I have had when using this is it isn’t the best pencil for tightlining. Being that it is a creamy gel formula, the color will transfer from your top waterline to your bottom if it doesn’t have a chance to dry completely.
How beautiful are these blushes?! Milani’s Baked Blushes come in many different shades, meaning there is a few more I need to pick up! The shades I own are Dolce Pink (pictured: bottom left), Rose D’Oro (top), and Luminoso (bottom right). If I had to choose a favorite, Luminoso wins. This shade is GORGEOUS. It is also a pretty close dupe for Benefit’s Coralista which is more than triple the price. It is frequently sold out in store so I linked it here! Give these a try if you want to experiment with different blush shades for your skin tone without breaking the bank!
My loves, my lashes. I truly believe false lashes can take your look to the next level. I have gotten so many of my girlfriends on the lash train that they’ve told me they don’t know what they were doing without them this whole time. I wanted to share my favorite affordable lash and brand. Ardell makes so many different styles of lashes ranging from the most natural looking lash to a very dramatic lash. They are extremely affordable and reusable! Ardell 113’s are my current favorite. The clear band makes them easy to apply and super lightweight. They add the perfect amount of glam to your makeup look!
I also included the Ardell Duralash Individuals because when I have the time, which isn’t very often these days, I like to customize my lashes with individuals. Customizing lashes could be its own separate post so I won’t dive into that now! Individuals are great on their own if you just want to add a little something to your natural lashes without applying a full lash. In my opinion the application of individuals is a bit more tedious but the result is beautiful!
I could probably go on and on about affordable products I love because there are so many quality products out there right now. Maybe I will have to make an affordable favorites part 2! In the meantime, what are your favorite affordable beauty items?
